NARRATOR or NARRATORS: This play is A Caterpillar’s Voice. It is a folk tale from Africa. It is brought to you by Whootie Owl. Once upon a time in Africa there was a Hare. The Hare lived in a nice cave. One day when the Hare was away, a Caterpillar went into the cave of the Hare.	NARRADOR O NARRADORES: Esta obra es "La Voz de Una Oruga." Es un cuento foclorico de Africa. Se lo presenta por Whootie Owl. Hace mucho tiempo en Africa, había un Liebre. La Liebre vivía en una cueva bonita. (HARE is on the stage. He is sitting in a chair. This is his cave. He stands up and speaks.)	(LIEBRE empiesa en el escenario. Está sentando en una silla. Esta es su cueva. Levanta y habla.)
HARE: I think it is a nice day for a walk. Maybe I will leave my cave and go visit a friend.	LIEBRE: Pienso que es un día buenismo para dar un paseo. Tal vez me voy de mi cueva y visitar un amigo.
(Hare exits.)	(Sale LIEBRE.)
(CATERPILLAR enters. It is good if CATERPILLAR can crawl.)	(Entra ORUGA. Está bien si ORUGA puede gatear.)
CATERPILLAR: This seems like a very nice cave.	ORUGA: Parece una cueva bonita.
(sits on a chair) This is nice. Maybe I will stay here. Oh, my! This cave has an echo. It makes my little voice sound big!	(siente en la silla) Está bueno. Tal vez me quedo acá. Ay! Esta cueva tiene un eco. La hace mi chicita vozita suena grande!
(HARE enters and looks around.)	(LIEBRE entra y mira alrededor.)
HARE: What is going on here?  It looks like someone is in my cave.  (calls out)   Who is in my cave?	LIEBRE: Que está pasando?  Parece que alguién está en mi cueva. (llama)  Quien está en mi cueva?
CATERPILLAR: (in a big, loud voice)   It is I!  I am the biggest and strongest one of them all.	ORUGA: (en una voz muy alta)   Soy yo!  Soy el más grande y el más fuerte de todos!
HARE: Oh, dear!  How am I going to get back in my cave?	LIEBRE: Ay! Como voy a entrar de nuevo a mi cueva?
(JACKAL enters.)	(Entrea CHACAL.)
HARE: Oh Jackal, please help me.	LIEBRE: Ay, Chacal, por favor ayudame.
JACKAL: What kind of help do you need?	CHACAL: Qué es que necesitas?
HARE: There is some big, strong animal in my cave.  Can you try to get it out?	LIEBRE: Hey un animal grande y fuerte en mi cueva.  Puedes tratar de quitarlo?
JACKAL: Sure, I can try.  (calls)  Who is in the cave of my friend, the Hare?	CHACAL: Como no, puedo tratar. (llama)  Quien está en la cueva de mi amigo, Liebre?
CATERPILLAR: (in a big, loud voice)   It is I!  I am the biggest and strongest of them all.	ORUGA: (en una voz muy alta)  Soy yo!  Soy el más grande y más fuerte de todos!
JACKAL: Oh, Hare, I do not think I can help you.  It sounds like you have a huge animal in your cave.  Probably bigger than me.  I must go now!  Goodbye!	CHACAL: Ay, Liebre, creo que no te puedo ayudar.  Parece que tengas un animal gigante en su cueva.  A lo major más grande que yo.  Tengo que irme!  Chao!
(JACKAL exits.)	(Sale CHACAL.)
(LEOPARD enters.)	(Entra LEOPARDO.)
HARE: Leopard, please stop and help me!	LIEBRE: Leopardo, por favor, parrete y ayudame!
LEOPARD: Sure.  What's the problem?	LEOPARDO: Como no.  Qué es el problema?
HARE: There is a big animal in my cave.  Can you get it out?	LIEBRE: Hay un animal grande en mi cueva.  Puedes quitarlo?
LEOPARD: Definitely.  I am big and strong. (calls)   Who is in the cave of my friend, Hare?	LEOPARDO: Seguro.  Soy grande y fuerte. (llama)  Quien está en la cueva de mi amigo, Liebre?
CATERPILLAR: (in a big, loud voice)   It is I!  I am the biggest and strongest one of them all.	ORUGA: (en una voz alta)  Soy yo!  Soy el más grande y más fuerte de todos.
LEOPARD: Uh, oh.  If that animal is the biggest and strongest, I do not want to think what he could do to me!  I am sorry, Hare.  I am out of here.	LEOPARDO: Oh cielos.  Si ese animal es el más grande y el más fuerte, ni quiero pensar en que me podría hacer a mi!  Perdona, Liebre.  Me voy.
(LEOPARD exits.)	(Sale LEOPARDO.)
(RHINOCEROS enters.)	(Entra RINOCERONTE.)
HARE: Oh please, Rhino, you have to help me.  You are big and strong.	LIEBRE: Oh, por favor, Rino, tienes que ayudarme.  Tu eres muy grande y muy fuerte.
RHINOCEROS: Oh thank you, I am.  How can I help?	RINOCERONTE: Oh gracias, si es cierto.  Como te puedo ayudar?
HARE: There is something in my cave.  I am scared.  Can you help me?	LIEBRE: Hay algo en mi cueva.  Tengo miedo.  Me puedes ayudar?
RHINOCEROS: Of course I can.  I am glad that you came to me for help.  Nothing scares me. (calls out)  Who is in the cave of my friend, Hare?	RINOCERONTE: Claro que si.  Me alegro que me pediste para ayuda.  Nada me da miedo. (llama)  Quien está en la cueva de mi amigo, Liebre?
CATERPILLAR: (in a big, loud voice)   It is I!  I am the biggest and strongest of them all.	ORUGA: (en una voz alta)  Soy yo!  Soy el más grande y más fuerte de todos.
HARE: Oh Rhinoceros, can you get it out?	LIEBRE: Oh, Rinoceronte, lo puedes sacar?
RHINOCEROS: Hare, I am your friend.  And nothing scares me.  Nothing, that is, except a big and loud voice in a cave!  You need a bigger and stronger animal than me.  Maybe an elephant?	RINOCERONTE: Liebre, soy tu amigo.  Y nada me da miedo.  Nada, es decir, salvo una voz grande y alta en una cueva!  Necesitas un animal más grande y fuerte que yo.  Tal vez un elefante?
(ELEPHANT enters.)	(Entra ELEFANTE.)
ELEPHANT: Did I hear you talking about me?	ELEFANTE: Te oyí hablando de mi?

ELEPHANT: What do you need?  I can do anything.  I am the biggest and strongest animal in the forest.	ELEFANTE: Que es que necesitas?  Puedo hacer todo.  Soy el más grande y el más fuerte en el bosque.
HARE: There is something in my cave.  Can you help to get it out?	LIEBRE: Hay algo en mi cueva.  Me puedes ayudar a quitarlo?
ELEPHANT: Oh sure.  Is that all? (calls)   Hey, who is in the cave of my friend, Hare?	ELEFANTE: Como no.  Es todito?  (llama)  Oyé.  Quien está en la cueva de mi amigo, Liebre?
CATERPILLAR: (in a big, loud voice)   It is I!  I am the biggest and strongest of them all.	ORUGA: (en una voz alta)  Soy yo!  Soy el más grande y más fuerte de todos.
ELEPHANT and RHINOCEROS: (screaming)  Aaahhhh!	ELEFANTE y RINOCERONTE: (gritando)  Aaayyyy!
(ELEPHANT and RINOCEROS run off the stage.)	(ELEFANTE y RINOCERONTE corren del escenario.)
HARE: NOW what am I going to do?	LIEBRE: AHORITA que voy a hacer?
(FROG enters.)	(Entra ZAPO.)
FROG: Hare, what is wrong?	ZAPO: Liebre, que te pasa?
HARE: Oh, it is just terrible.  I am trying to go inside my home, but there is something in my cave.  It says it is the biggest and strongest one of them all.  I do not know what to do!	LIEBRE: Oh, es terrible.  Estoy tratando de entrar mi hogar, pero hay algo en mi cueva.  Dice que es el más grande y el más fuerte de todo el mundo.  No sé que hacer!
FROG: Have you tried calling to the thing in your cave?	ZAPO: Has tratado llamando a la cosa en su cueva?
HARE: Oh yes.  I tried.  So did Jackal, Leopard, Rhinoceros and Elephant.	LIEBRE: Oh si.  Traté.  También Chacal, Leopardo, Rinoceronte, y Elefante.
FROG: What happened?	ZAPO: Que pasó?
HARE: All the other animals were scared and ran away.	LIEBRE: Todos los demás tenían miedo y se fugieron.
FROG: I know I am not as big as Jackal, Leopard, Rhino, or Elephant.  Still, can I try, too?	ZAPO: Sé que no soy tan grande como Chacal, Leopardo, Rino, o Elefante.  Todavía, puedo tratar, también?

FROG: (calls)  Who is in the cave of my friend, Hare?  I am the one who is the biggest and strongest of ALL the animals.  Come outside this cave, right now!	ZAPO: (llamando)  Quién está en la cueva de mi amigo, Liebre?  Yo soy el que es el más grande y el más fuerte de todos los animales.  Salgate de esta cueva, ahorita!
CATERPILLAR: Oh dear, what a loud voice!  After all, I am just a Caterpillar.  I am coming out.  Please do not hurt me.	ORUGA: Ay, que voz alta! Al fin de la hornada, soy una sola orguita.  Ya voy.  Por favor no me lastimes.
(Animals get up.)	(Animales se levantan.)
(CATERPILLAR gets off the chair, crawls over to the animals, and stands up.)	(ORUGA baja de la silla, gatea a los animales y se levanta.)
HARE: What?  All that time it was YOU in the cave?	LIEBRE: Que? Todo ese tiempoe fuiste TU en la cueva?
(JACKAL, LEOPARD, RHINOCEROS and ELEPHANT enter.)	(CHACAL, LEOPARDO, RINOCERONTE o ELEFANTE entran.)
JACKAL: Wow!  It was only a caterpillar.	CHACAL: Caramba, solo fue una oruga.
LEOPARD: Boy, he sure fooled us.	LEOPARDO: Hijo, nos engañó.
CATERPILLAR: Oooops.	ORUGA: Uy.
HARE: I can not believe that you were all scared of a little caterpillar.	LIEBRE: No puedo creer que ustedes teníasn miedo de una orguita.
FROG: I think you were scared too, Hare.	ZAPO: Creo que tú tenías miedo también, Liebre.
HARE: No, no, not of Caterpillar.  It was only that loud voice.	LIEBRE: No, no, no de Oruga.  Solo fue esa voz muy alta.
RHINOCEROS: You are right, Hare.  How did such a little, tiny Caterpillar have such a loud voice?	RINOCERONTE: Tienes razón, Liebre.  Como es que una orugita chicita tenía una voz tan alta?
CATERPILLAR: Well, this cave was so cozy.  And when I spoke, there was a wonderufl echo!  It made me feel big!	ORUGA: Bueno, esta cueva fue tan asogedora.  Y cuando yo hablaba, había un eco maravilloso!  Me hizo sentir GRANDE!
(JACKAL, LEOPARD, RHINOCEROS, and ELEPHANT all frown down at CATERPILLAR.  They look mad.)	(CHACAL, LEOPARDO, RINO, y ELEPHANTE fruncen en ceño a ORUGA.  Ellos parecen enojado.)
CATERPILLAR: Um, right now I think I will move on.	ORUGA: Em, ahorita creo que me voy.
(CATERPILLAR crawls off the stage.)	(ORUGA gatea del escenario.)
ELEPHANT: Can you believe it?  All of us were scared of that small, little caterpillar!	ELEFANTE: Lo puedes creer?  Todos nosotros teníamos miedo de esa orugita chicita!
(All the animals laugh.)	(Todos se reíen.)
HARE: (pointing to FROG)  All of us, that is, except one.	LIEBRE: (señalando a ZAPO)  Todos nosotros, es decir, salvo uno.
